Igre - Games

June 6th, 2009

According to website Igre (games in Croatian lang.) number of girls playing online games increased 300% over last year.
Here is a short snippet of Cassell & Jenkins research from 1998 year:

Over the last two decades, girls and computer gaming has become a major topic of research interest.
Researchers have examined a number of related issues, including the relative frequency with which girls and boys use
computer games, the educational benefits of computer game use, and the types of games and game features that
appeal to girls and young women. Most researchers have come to agree that
although boys and girls can be equally skilled at using computers and computer games, boys are more likely
than girls to choose to play with them, and children of both sexes consider both computers and computer
games to be boys’ toys.

Most visited hangout for Croatian girls is Igre za djevojčice (Croatian for Games for girls), part of Igre website. This subpage generated breakout search for Igre za djevojčice query at Google insights for search.

Manufacturers attempt to produce more female characters and increase their share of the female gaming market in 21-st century.

ZAGREB, CROATIA – Block of faculties with the goal of establishing free education, organised by the Independent students` initiative continues at the Zagreb Faculty of Philosophy. Although the bloc has been lifted in all other Croatian citizens, after the plenum on Thursday night, which lasted three and a half hours, the Faculty of Philosophy students unanimously decided that the bloc continues, which was the same conclusion at the Art Academy in Rijeka.
Faculty of Philosophy Council meets on Tuesday when it will decide on the continuation of lectures and sanctions for students who participate in the bloc.

Minister Primorac told the Jutarnji list daily that he did not wish to hurt anyone and that his reaction was spontaneous. Furthermore, he said that according to his information, some students thought this move was delightful.

Fall of a Mi-8 helicopter investigation

July 29th, 2008

The results of the investigation of the commission that investigated the fall of a Mi-8 VIP helicopter in Vukovar last year have shown without a doubt that the top national leadership, and very often the foreign officials who joined them, were for ten years in grave danger as they were being transported by an aircraft that had no valid manufacturer documentation that would allow for its proper maintenance. Helicopter H-253 was modified from a transport variant to a VIP version following the “do-it-yourself” principle. The Croatian President, Prime Minister and ministers, and top military officials were in fact riding in an “illegal” VIP helicopter modified in Croatia without the permission of the manufacturer.

Mirjana Pukanic Video

April 11th, 2008

ZAGREB, CROATIA - While Mirjana Pukanic was giving an interview on her husband, Ivo Pukanic, the owner of National weekly, Zagreb police broke into her flat and forcefully dragged her away and forced her to get in an ambulance. Then they took her to the psychiatry ward of a hospital in Zagreb. In front of the cameras of Croatian journalists, the police ‘threw her’ in the ambulance and handcuffed her in a brutal way, according to her behaving like hooligans.

- Unhand me, let me go, you see what they do? – Pukanic cried as a policeman held her fists, trying to break her resistance.

Mirjana Pukanic to doctors: leave me alone

After all this, almost four hours of strain followed in Pukanovic’s flat in front of the journalists, while Mirjana refused to let the ambulance services inside the house. After she let them in, Mirjana still refused to be examined.

- Do not make a comedy of this, move away from here, let me be in peace, I do not need a doctor, I need peace. He needs a doctor – she told the doctors.

The doctors and the police arrived, the police confirmed us, as they were called by doctors and social workers because Mirjana allegedly did not follow the therapy she was prescribed. However, Mrs Pukanic showed us a document, which we filmed with our camera, according to which yesterday she attended a medical consultation. According to this document, Mirjana Pukanic did not need to be hospitalised.

Banac: Mirjana asked us for help

Recently Mirjana Pukanic asked the president of the Croatian Helsinki Committee for Human Rights (HHO), Ivo Banac, who confirmed this to us in a telephone interview.

- Considering that we are talking about an extremely delicate situation, I can not enter the subject – said the president of the HHO, adding that Mrs Pukanic asked him precise requests which he did not want to reveal.

He did not want to give comments on today’s arrest because, he said, there is still no official information.

Mesic:Croatia to Join Peace Mission in Kosovo

February 17th, 2008

POZEGA - President Stjepan Mesic stated that it would not be good for Serbia to break relations with the countries that will recognise Kosovo as an independent country. If they do, the whole area of Serbia and Kosovo will pay consequences.

Croatia wants to join the EU, and the EU has rules and standards we want to accept. If the majority of these countries recognises Kosovo, Croatia will do the same, said Mesic.

Mesic said that probably European forces will enter Kosovo if they proclaim independence, and this means that Croatia will take part in the peacekeeping mission.

- Croatia has accepted help from other countries, military included, when we got involved in the brutal war. We asked for help and the world helped us. Now we are paying our debts by taking part in fifteen missions around the world. Croatia has to help not in order to make war, but to maintain peace. A lot of this will depend on how Kosovo will be organised, and what Status it will have – said President Mesic.

Sanader About Budgetary deficit

February 14th, 2008

Ivo Sanader, Prime Minister, announced that the budgetary deficit this year will not be higher than last year and that the State will issue loans on foreign markets to refinance the due debts.

This was announced by the Prime Minister while commenting the latest statements of Željko Rohatinski, Governor of the Croatian National Bank (HNB), and his proposed measures to reduce the inflation specified after the recent meeting between the Government and bankers.

“He (the Governor) only repeated what we told him at the meeting, what we did and what we announced, within the advices the HNB gave to the Government”, believes Sanader. Ivan Šuker, the Minister of Finance, who made a statement for the press afterwards, expressed his satisfaction that Governor Rohatinski supported governmental measures.

“I am pleased that the Governor supported governmental measures as we do the measures of monetary policy”, said Šuker characterizing the relations and cooperation with the Governor as excellent. Sanader appealed to the HNB to do its part of the job.

“It is easy to say what needs to be done by someone else, but it is also good to say what we need to do. The Government will be the first to provide an example and we expect the same from others.” Both the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance point out that the budgetary deficit for this year will not exceed the one from last year, and the Government, according to Sanader, will make attempts to reduce it.

“The budgetary deficit of 2.4 to 2.5% (of GDP) will be retained this year as well. This is what the Government could do, it is the fiscal policy which will not generate consumption”, said Sanader, adding that the proposed indebtedness abroad to refinance the due debts is governmental proposal specified by someone else.

We wish to verify the status, Croatia’s rating abroad and alleviate the situation in Croatia, said Sanader. His announcements were confirmed by Minister Šuker who also mentioned a deficit of 2.3 to 2.4% of GDP, and pointed out that state indebtedness abroad was already discussed prior to the meeting with the Governor and bank representatives with the Government, at the meeting with bankers a week ago at the Ministry.

The Ministry estimated that this year’s indebtedness will amount to around HRK 11bn, said Šuker.
